Residents living in Harford County attend schools within the Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) district. There are 33 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 alternative programs within HCPS. These schools acknowledge that their success is due in large part to the active involvement of parents, local government, and the local business community. Through this involvement, it is believed the vision of preparing students “to succeed academically and socially in a diverse, democratic, change-oriented, and global society” is achieved. It is also stressed here that importance be placed on the awareness of environmental responsibility and that all students be provided access to current technology in keeping with 21st century learning. Colleges
Harford Community College ~ Six core values are defined by Harford Community College for which this open-access institution holds itself accountable. Goucher College ~ Goucher College is a college of a different sort than most other colleges. One unique feature that sets Goucher College apart is its requirement that each undergraduate student complete at least one study-abroad program before graduation. Driving this requirement is the belief that no matter where a student wants to go in life, a global perspective is absolutely necessary; that real-world experience combined with what is learned in the classroom will result in different methods of thinking, communicating, and ultimately of living. This private liberal arts and sciences college offers students the benefits of very small class sizes (student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1) and a teaching staff of which 90 percent possess doctorates or the highest degree available in their chosen fields. Thirty-one majors are available, as well as seventeen intercollegiate athletic teams and more than 60 clubs and organizations.
